WELCOME TO
STEVENAGE PHOENIX
Running Club

Stevenage Phoenix is a free to join, totally free to run with, affiliated and fully inclusive fun and friendly running club. We are the only club that has been totally free to run with since its start, including free training sessions on Ridlins track and a grass track during the summer. We are proud to be the most welcoming club in Stevenage, encouraging prospective members to try us out before joining.

We have an award winning England Athletics qualified Head Coach who is always on hand to give help and advice and delivers many of the training sessions. We are affiliated to the Association of Running Clubs and Herts Amateur Athletics Association.

Membership to the club is, and always will be, FREE. You can apply to join the club at any time during the year.

Training

Our training philosophy is to have fun with our running whilst enabling runners to reach their potential and get the most from their training. Our training sessions are suitable for all runners who are able to run at least 5km (3.1 miles) continuously. We use a combination of steady running, interval training, hills and off road runs. Variety is the spice of life! A balanced training programme developed by our award winning UK athletics qualified performance coach will always bring the best out of runners and is more fun. You can find out more about our training sessions here. We currently train twice in the week - on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We also meet on Sunday mornings for a longer training run.

The Phoenix Foundation is our ten week training programme that helps novices (non runners) to complete their first 5k run. it also helps runners with the support they need to progress from run/walk 5ks to a continuous 5k. The programme is a fun way to run and meet other runners.

Joining the club

We would love to see you join us. Joining the club is totally free and easy. There are no charges for any of our training sessions. You just need to complete an on line form and we will confirm your membership after processing your application.  We will also give you access details for the use of our free training diary on Team Up.

The Phoenix Foundation

Our 10 week Foundation programme can get you to your first 5k or to get you back to running again.

The club has regular 10 week programmes that progressively take you to your first 5k continuous run. The programme also supports those coming back to running after a break. We celebrate the group’s achievements with certificates and graduation normally takes place at Stevenage parkrun at the end of the 10 week programme. The foundation programme is TOTALLY FREE for all participants.

Marathon and half marathon training

Half marathons

Our qualified endurance coach can work with you to build a half marathon training plan that you can follow and get you ready for YOUR half marathon, whether it is your first or 31st! It’s not about giving you a plan and then just letting you get on with it. He will build in regular reviews of your training against your plan and make changes as things evolve. A good plan is flexible enough to do that. Training will be based around the three weekly sessions the club offers with cross training and strength training to complement it.

Marathons

Our coach has run over 110 marathons. During that time he has learnt a great deal about the distance! He knows the challenges and also how to get the best out of your training to reach your potential. He will work with you to develop a bespoke plan for your marathon and then regularly review your training against the plan, making adaptations as you go. The plan will be based around the clubs training sessions but will include additional strength training and run sessions tailored around your experience as a runner.

All of our training sessions are powered by the Team Up app. This gives all of our members free, easy access to our training sessions and club activities from their mobile devices. Members simply download the app to their mobile device and copy in the URL that is given to them when they join the club. They can then see everything that is going on in the club at the click of a button!

We are affiliated to the Association of Running Clubs (ARC) and Herts County Amateur Athletics Association. Click on the logo below to find out more about what affiliation means to you as a member of the club.

We are very proud to be supporting the Food Bank run initiative. This provides vital support to our local food banks.
